Top 10 Tuesday: New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme with weekly prompts hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl – this is my first time joining in and I’m so excited! I absolutely LOVE making lists. And I discovered it was a thing when I got into The Princess Diaries way back in the eighth grade. Have you read the books or seen the movies?

Anyway, this week’s topic is New-to-Me Authors I read in 2018. And I already have a list ready to consult because it was one of my resolutions last year (and this year) to read from more new-to-me authors.

I read 19 new-to-me authors last year and found several that I’d like to read more from. Here are my top 10:

  1. Angie Thomas
    • The Hate U Give – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  2. Madeline Miller
    • The Song of Achilles – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
    • Circe – ⭐⭐⭐.75

  3. Penelope Bagieu
    • Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked The World – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  4. Emily Suvada
    • This Mortal Coil – ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

  5. Deborah Harkness
    • A Discovery of Witches – ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25

  6. Marie Lu
    • Warcross – ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25

  7. Caroline Kepnes
    • You – ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25

  8. Sylvain Neuvel
    • Sleeping Giants – ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25

  9. Morgan Rhodes
    • Falling Kingdoms – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  10. Jenny Han
    • To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m already listening to the audiobook of Hidden bodies by Caroline Kepnes and very excited to get On The Come Up by Angie Thomas and This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada. How many of these authors have you read?

Also, let me know which authors’ books you tried for the first time in 2018 and they ended up as your favorites!

  1. I didn’t enjoy Circe as much I’d hoped to. I was really excited for it, but it wasn’t what I was expecting it to be. I loved, LOVED The Song of Achilles, it broke my heart, made me sob like baby.
But Circe was kind of a letdown, especially since I hadn’t know that it was not about Odysseus’s journey back from Troy. It was set in a different world, perspective and format we’re different too. I just couldn’t really connect to the characters. 🙈
I feel like I’m scaring you away from the book. Please do read it! A lot of people really did like it, you might too! 🙂

    • Thank you, Lisa! I’m definitely going to be trying more authors this year, I have a whole shelf full of them. 🙈
I checked out your post in the morning but for some reason, I wasn’t able post a comment. I’m quite new to blogging so I’m not sure what went wrong there. I saw a few of the authors from my TBR for this year on your list.. 🙂

    • I found it terrifying and also kind of amusing – Joe’s voice and his thoughts and basically how he seemed so unaware of what he was doing and at the same time so sure of his actions! I couldn’t put it down and the show was amazing as well. ☺️
