Most Anticipated Releases Jan-Feb 2019 Part – 1

Today’s post is a very exciting one for me and I hope it will be for you as well. I always enjoy finding new books/authors to check out and add to my wishlist. There are SO many books releasing every week that it’s highly unlikely I’ll be able to get to all of the ones I find interesting in my lifetime. But I like to hope. 😉

So, I’ve put together a list of my most anticipated releases from a variety of genres for the first two months of 2019 in the hope that you might find some to add to your watch list or let me know your thoughts on them if you’ve read them already. This is just Part 1, I had to break up the list as the post was getting to be too long!

The Field Guide To The North American Teenager by Ben Philippe

  • Release Date: 8th January
  • Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary

A Black French Canadian teenager knows from watching American sitcoms that those three things don’t bode well when you are moving to Austin, Texas. Making friends is a not a priority for him, he’s just biding his time till he can go back home to Canada – but all the labels (Jocks, Loners, Cheerleaders etc.) start becoming people to him and he might even be interested in the Manic Pixie Dream Girl.

I won’t say more but it sounds like it’ll be a fun and entertaining read with a diverse cast!

The Binding by Bridget Collins

  • Release Date: 10th January
  • Genres: Adult, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, LGBTQ+

In a world where books are strictly forbidden, a young farmer is summoned away from the fields to begin an apprenticeship as a Bookbinder – a sacred calling but one that arouses fear and prejudice among their small community. Each volume he’s learning to bind will capture something unique and extraordinary – a memory – a dark secret you want to forget, erase.

Honestly, that was enough to make me want to read it but there’s more: one of the books there has his name on it.

The Girl King by Mimi Yu

  • Release Date: 10th January
  • Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy, Own Voices

An Asian inspired fantasy where two sisters become unwitting rivals in a war to claim the title of Emperor in this sweeping tale of ambition, sacrifice and betrayal. There’s also court politics, forbidden, deadly magic and even a wolf shape-shifter!

I would really pick this one up right now if I could!

Ship Of Smoke And Steel by Django Wexler

  • Release Date: 22nd January
  • Genres: Young Adult, Epic Fantasy

Eighteen-year-old ward boss with a secret magical ability is sent on an impossible mission: steal Soliton, a legendary ghost ship—a ship from which no one has ever returned. If she fails, her sister’s life is forfeit.

I haven’t read anything by Django Wexler before but I’ve heard good things about his books, and this is the first in a new trilogy so I’m excited! Also, this cover caught my eye because Throne of Glass vibes. 😉

Circle Of Shadows by Evelyn Skye

  • Release Date: 22nd January
  • Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy

Love, spies, and adventure abound as Sora, who can move silently as a ghost and hurl throwing stars with lethal accuracy, and her gemina, Daemon, who can win any physical fight blindfolded and with an arm tied around his back, unravel a complex web of magic and secrets that might tear them—and the entire kingdom—apart forever.

I’m so excited for this one – sounds like it’ll be dark, brutal and action-packed.

A Curse So Dark And Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

  • Release Date: 28th January
  • Genres: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Fairytale Retellings, Diverse, LGBTQIAP+

Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall, is cursed to relive his eighteenth year every autumn and then become a beast hell-bent on destruction. The only hope of breaking the curse and saving his kingdom is to have a girl fall for him but he’s given up hope. Harper is a strong girl suffering from cerebral palsy, caring for her dying mother and underestimated by her brother. When she tries to help a stranger on the streets of Washington DC, she gets sucked into Rhen’s world and she might well be Rhen’s last chance to save his people.

I’m so damn excited to see how the contemporary and fantasy worlds collide and what turns the story will take! Beauty And The Beast with a twist, just give it to me already. 😍

King Of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

  • Release Date: 29th January
  • Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy

Nikolai was, by far, my most favorite character in the Shadow and Bone trilogy and I can’t wait to read what happens after the events of Ruin and Rising – the bloody civil war – as he tries to find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army – all the while battling the dark magic that is growing stronger inside him and threatening all he has built.

There will be spoilers in this book for the Six of Crows duology as well (and certain characters returning from both series) so make sure you’ve read them before you pick this one up! I still have to read the SoC duology.

Smoke And Summons by Charlie N. Holmberg

  • Release Date: 1st February
  • Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy

Sandis is a human vessel and can host extremely powerful ancient spirits. At her master’s command she can be transformed against her will into a raging monster – a weapon to be used, but this transformation can be fatal and she must run to stay alive. To escape and outwit her master’s monsters, Sandis must partner up with a thief who has a rare device that grants him immortality for a minute every day.

This sounds like an exciting fast-paced ride and I’m in!

Stolen Time by Danielle Rollins

  • Release Date: 5th February
  • Genres: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Time Travel

In 1913, Dorothy runs away in her wedding gown by stowing away on a peculiar aircraft and when she wakes, she finds herself in New Seattle in 2077, a chilling version of the world she left behind. Ash, the pilot of the aircraft which is actually a time machine is looking for the machine’s inventor…and I don’t want to know any more than this. Are you as intrigued as I am? And look at this gorgeous cover! I need this book right now!

Dark Of The West by Joanna Hathaway

  • Release Date: 5th February
  • Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy

A princess from a small kingdom in the North (raised in a palace but shielded from politics wants to stop the war) and a fighter pilot from halfway around the world fall for each other as he tries to spy on her to get intel on her mother, the Queen. Can their love stop the war between their families?

This is being pitched as Code Name Verity meets The Winner’s Curse (though I’m getting a bit of Romeo & Juliet in there too), both of which are on my TBR and I’m pretty sure I’ll like them all.

On The Come Up by Angie Thomas

  • Release Date: 7th February
  • Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary, Diverse,

You have to have been living under a rock if you haven’t heard of this author’s debut novel, The Hate U Give, that took the literary world by storm.

Her follow-up novel, On The Come Up, is about 16-year-old Bri who wants be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Her father was an underground rap legend who died before he hit big, so Bri’s got big shoes to fill. When her mother loses her job and things get even more dire at home, Bri realizes she needs to fight for her dreams and be who she is.

I’m very much looking forward to meeting Bri and rooting for her as she fights for herself and her dreams.

I’m going to stop here, for now – that was a pretty long post and I have a ton more books to share with you guys so look out for Part 2 of my Most Anticipated Releases Jan-Feb 2019! I’ll update the link here when it’s up but you can also subscribe to my blog to get notified whenever I post something, which is like once a day or two, and an email from me once a day isn’t such a bad thing, is it? 😊

Also, let me know in the comments below which of these you’re planning to read and if you found any new books to add to your TBR.

Until next time, happy reading!
