Year of the Asian Reading Challenge 2019 (Recommendations + Progress Tracker)

I was a bit late joining the #YARC2019 but I’m still very excited to read more books by Asian authors this year! You can find more info about this challenge here.

Essentially, this challenge is all about reading books by Asian authors and there are several levels you can target depending on how many books you want to read for this challenge. My Goodreads reading goal for this year is 60, so for the YARC, I’m targetting the Indian Cobra level i.e. 11-20 books.

So, the next step was to go through my shelves and pick out books that fit this challenge. Luckily, I have enough unread books on my shelves to reach the target along with some new releases that I’m really looking forward to this year, provided I read them all. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I’m a mood reader so there’s no guarantee I’ll read all the books on a TBR I set but I try to get through most of them. Hence, I’m just sharing here all the books by Asian authors I already own and haven’t read but I won’t be pressuring myself to read them all though I will try to.

Oops! Forgot to include P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han (Book 2 in the Lara Jean trilogy) which I’ll probably (hopefully) be picking up soon. I’ve also ordered Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan and it should reach me in a couple days (so excited to read it and watch the movie!!).

And here are some books by Asian authors that I hope to buy if/when they release here:

Even though I haven’t exactly set a TBR, I’m sharing these books here in the hope that you might get some ideas for books to include in your TBRs if you like. And if you have any recommendations for me, please do share them in the comments below!

Books I’ve read so far: 6/20

Progress Updated: 10th May

And here are some amazing resources that I found extremely useful to find more books by Asian authors:

Are you participating in the Year of the Asian Reading Challenge? Which level are you aiming for? How many have you read so far? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Hi Tanvi! I still haven’t made a progress tracker for YARC but this is a great motivation ๐Ÿ˜€ Oh, and I love your recs and I have spy The Kiss Quotient , Descendant of the Crane , Spin the Dawn and may of my favourites.

  2. Thank you so much for this post! Iโ€™ve been looking forward to reading all the upcoming/already published releases by Asian authors, and youโ€™ve compiled them all into a wonderfully organized list!! Girls of Paper and Fire, the Young Elites, the Astonishing Color of After, and Spin the Dawn are all AMAZING books, so I think youโ€™ll have a blast reading them! Speaking of which, HAPPY READING! ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m especially eager to get to Empress of All Seasons and Descendant of the Crane (I have an ARC of the latter and I’m so excited ๐Ÿ˜Š)! thanks for including the rec lists, I’m always down to support more Asian authors!!

  4. Ahhh, that’s good to hear a lot of the books you have fit the criteria so you were able to find enough to fit your goal! I hope you get the chance to read Shadow of the Fox – I read it and loved it. Same with The Young Elites, which I notice you have as part of your TBR.

Personally I’m not partaking in the challenge as I find I pressure myself too much and that ends up with me quitting unconsciously. BUT I did read 2 books I think? Maybe one? I don’t even remember now.

    • It’s alright! It’s all about reading more books from different genres, doesn’t need to be stressful! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚ As long you enjoy what you’re reading and keep trying new genres/authors if that makes you happy, then yay! โ˜บ๏ธโ˜บ๏ธ I really want to get Shadow of the Fox, it’s not available around me yet. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

  5. I’m not taking part because I currently already have a backlist of books to read! But I have noticed that I have a few that are on your list like the Descendant of the Crane and the Poppy War! So looking forward to hearing what you think of them!
Good luck for your challenge too! x
