Top 10 Tuesday: Unfinished Series | Sequels I Need To Read Soon

Hello and happy Tuesday! March really seems to be going by fast. It’s time for another Top 10 Tuesday already and I feel like I just did one.

This week’s prompt is Standalone Books That Need A Sequel but I couldn’t think of any – I haven’t read many standalones, or at least not ones where I was dissatisfied with the story and wanted more. So, I decided to list the top 10 series that I have started reading but need to read the sequels to continue/finish them.

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.
  1. Obsidio (Illuminae Files #3) by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman: I read Illuminae and Gemina a while back and then had to wait till I could get my hands on a paperback copy of Obsidio so even though I loved the first two books, I need to reread them before I can finally pick up and read Obsidio.

  2. Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare: Just need to read Clockwork Princess and then City of Heavenly Fire and I can finally get started on Lady Midnight! Honestly, I’ve been enjoying the Shadowhunters TV Show more than the books. πŸ™ˆ

  3. Restore Me (Shatter Me #4) by Taheren Mafi: I’ll be rereading Ignite Me before I read this one but they’re both on my TBR for this year. I can’t wait to read more Warner and Kenji scenes! πŸ˜‰

  4. Queen of Attolia (The Queen’s Thief #2) by Megan Whalen Turner: Just read The Thief back in early February and even though it was a slow start, I’m really looking forward to continuing on with this series!

  5. Traitor To The Throne (Rebel of the Sands #2) by Alwyn Hamilton: Read the first book last year and enjoyed but haven’t continued with the series yet, though I want to see where the story will go.

  6. Of Blood And Bone (Chronicles of the One #2) by Nora Roberts: Year One was such an amazing start to this trilogy, one of my best reads last year! I am so excited to read the sequel but I might wait to read it closer to the final book’s release later this year so I can marathon them both. 😍

  7. Wildcard (Warcross #2) by Marie Lu: I really enjoyed Warcross, partially because of the hype, maybe, but I liked it. I just haven’t felt like picking up Wildcard after seeing the mixed (mostly negative) reactions to it, but I want to cross off this duology soon.

  8. Rebel Spring (Falling Kingdoms #2) by Morgan Rhodes: Another series I started last year but haven’t gone back to yet, but need to.

  9. This Cruel Design (This Mortal Coil #2) by Emily Suvada: This Mortal Coil was an absolutely mind-blowing read with lots mystery and action and I can’t wait to read the sequel!

  10. Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2) by Deborah Harkness: I read and enjoyed a story about witches and vampires after a really long time – not to mention that the sequel is about to take place in a different setting and the TV show for A Discovery of Witches was so good! I’m so excited to see what will happen next. 😊

There are many more series I’m currently reading and should continue and finish or at least catch up to however many sequels are out. But these are my top 10 that I want to read this year. I really need to work on finishing series I start.

Do you also start a series without finishing the previous ones? Have you read or want to read any of the series/authors mentioned above? Talk to me in the comments below!

  1. Clockwork princess was such a great trilogy in my mind. And tbh, even though I only watched a few episodes of the Shadowhunters tv show, I enjoyed it waaaaay more than the novels, haha.

Restore Me is well worth the read. I am literally speechless about the happenings of the 4th book, but I’m even more speechless about how Restore Me ended. YIKES.

I have yet to read Warcross, but I AM looking Forward to it! This also goes for the Falling Kingdom series, as well as the Mortal Coil series.

    Great post! πŸ˜€

    • Yep, I definitely like the Shadowhunters show much more than the books..πŸ˜‹ but I didn’t connect all the much with the Infernal Devices.πŸ™ˆ Hopefully I’ll enjoy the last books of TMI and TID more than the previous ones.

I can’t wait to reread Ignite Me and then finally get to Restore Me…people warned me about the cliffhanger so I’ve been waiting to read it close to the release of the next one. 😍

      Hope you enjoy the rest!

      • I honestly stopped reading Clare’s writing after I tried to re-read City of Bones. I just found that I *couldn’t stand* how everything was playing out. Lol, yikes.

Oh goossshhhhh, I have an inking that there will be another cliff hanger in Defy Me, haha.

        • Haha, I don’t think I’ll be rereading them…ever. 😜 I just want to read the ones I already own and finish the series. πŸ™ˆ I keep buying all her books because of the hype but I keep putting off reading them. πŸ™ˆ

I’m dying to read Restore Me even knowing that there’s a cliffhanger and it’ll be torture having to wait for Defy Me to be available here and then the next one…..oof, I might just collect the books and wait to read this trilogy after they’re all out. πŸ˜‹πŸ™ˆ

          • Honestly, a Big Mood. Before I kinda always wanted to buy intensely hyped up novels just to see what the hub-bub is all about. Now though I’m really lenient. I wait for most hyped books to be added to the libraries collection πŸ˜€

Honestly thats what I want to do to ! I ended up buying Defy Me, and it’s in hardcover… I mean, I want my series to all match in format, but at the same time, if I’m not going to re-read them I may as well get rid of my copies some day LOL.

  2. Great Post! I love your twist on the theme. I enjoyed Wildcard, but like some of the reviews, I didn’t enjoy it as much as War Cross.

  3. Great list! I really need to read Illuminae, I’ve heard such great things about it, and it’s about time I read A Discovery of Witches, too. πŸ™‚

  4. I did this “tweaking” too! I found it much easier becase there are more sequels I haven’t finished vs. stand alone books that I read but felt they should have continued.

  5. Ah, you should definitely complete Cty of Heavenly Fire and Clockwork Princess! They are amazing.
I loved Lady Midnight too. Now, I have to reread that and Lord of Shadows before I dive into Queen of Air and Darkness but the thickness is just so putting off.
    Great post! xx

  6. The cliffhanger in Restore Me left me wanting more more more! I still have to start city of Ashes, but I’m definitely planning on finishing all these books.
