Top 3 Thursday – Contemporary Books

I was going to post my review for P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han today but something just wasn’t sitting right. So I scrapped it. Instead, I’m glad I found another weekly meme to join!

Top 3 Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Mel @ A Cosy Reading Blog. Today’s prompt is Contemporary Books.

I don’t really read that many contemporaries (I’m more of a romantic suspense/fantasy fan) but I have read some incredible contemporaries in the last couple of years.

  1. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda: A YA LGBT romance about a not-so-openly gay sixteen-year-old whose secret emails fall into the wrong hands and if he doesn’t give in to the blackmail, his whole world could collapse around him.
I read this back in 2016 first and absolutely ADORED it, then watched the movie last year and reread it and loved it even more! This is one instance where I’m not sure whether I love the book or the movie more.

  2. Geekerella: Another sweet and adorable contemporary romance retelling of Cinderella about a fangirl whose favorite series is being rebooted as a movie and the winner of a Cosplay Contest will win an invitation to the ball and a meet-and-greet with the lead actor.
Told in alternating chapters from the POV of the female and male protagonists, this was one sweet ride! I’m so excited for the sequel coming out in a couple of months!

  3. The Kiss Quotient: Just finished this one a couple days back and I was not prepared for the cuteness that is this book! It had been a long time since I read an adult contemporary romance but I loved this one to bits!
A wealthy econometrician hires a male escort to teach her how to get better at sex – a kind of gender-bender retelling of Pretty Woman (the Julia Roberts movie) and more. Even more amazing is the fact that it’s an own voices debut novel!

These were the top 3 books that came to mind when I saw today’s prompt. I’m so glad I read them when I did – sometimes, change is good. 😊

Have you read any of these books? How did you like them? Which contemporary books do you recommend to everyone? Tell me in the comments below!

  1. Simon vs. is so damn cute!! Both as a movie and as a book!! I haven’t read the other 2 but The KISS Quotient I’ve heard of everywhere.

  2. I buddy read Simon vs. in the end of 2017 with my real life friend and I read The Kiss Quotient in the end of 2018 I think. Geekerella is still in my TBR but I’m not sure if I’m ever going to read it.

  3. AHH! Great choices.
I looooved Simon and Geekerella and am extremely excited to read The Princes and The Fangirl.
I haven’t read The Kiss Quotient yet but I’m so psyched to read it and I hope that I can buy it soon! Plus, that cover you have used is so different and pretty(the one I’ve seen is just so meh, but this one <3)
I'm gonna go search if I can find that one…

  4. I read The Kiss Quotient when it first came out, I wasn’t fond of the romance but I thought the autistic rep was wonderfully done. Heard a lot about the other two books, hope to read them soon…

  5. Ooooo I read the first two!! Absolutely love them. I own the third but haven’t gotten to it 😅😅 BUT I read an ARC of The Princess and the Fangirl and it is absolutely amazing 😍 I might have loved it more than Geekerella (and that says something)! Great post, I might jump on this meme every two weeks 🤔🤔
