Top 10 Tuesday – Books That Take Place In Countries Other Than My Usual Reads

Hello! It’s been so long since I did a Top 10 Tuesday post. I haven’t had a lot of time the last few weeks and when I’ve been free, I haven’t felt very inspired. So even though I didn’t stick to this week’s prompt, I’m happy to finally post something here!

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

Usually this type of prompt refers to books about countries other than your own, but the thing is, just about all the books I read are set in foreign countries (probably 90% of them in the US), rarely do I read books set in my home country. So, for this prompt, I decided to list some amazing books I’ve read that are not set in the US but other countries I would love to read more about. And maybe even see for myself someday. 😍

1. The Guardians Trilogy by Nora Roberts: Each book in this trilogy is set in a different picturesque city in Europe so we get to see Greece, Italy and Ireland! Plus, it’s fantasy and I love it!
   
   
2. Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella: Just read this one earlier this month and loved it! It’s a rom-com set in London, which I’d never read before. There’s also been news that it is being adapted into a movie and while there is no release date yet on IMDB, I’m still pretty excited.
   
   
3. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan: This one starts out in London and New York (just a couple chapters here and there) but the majority of it is set in Singapore – another place I’d never read a book about before. Both the book and the movie were quite fun.
   
   
4. Enchantée by Gita Trelease: I was very excited to read this ever since I read that it’s a historical fantasy fiction set in 1789 in France right before the revolution. And it was such a fun and atmospheric read, I’m so excited for the sequel! Find my complete review here.
   
   
5. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon: If you haven’t heard of this book series or show by now, you’re missing out. I’ll just say one word: Scotland. Now go check this fantastic series out!
   
   
6. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness: Read this first book in the All Souls Trilogy a few months ago and I so loved the writing and the imagery it invoked in my mind. This one is mostly set in present-day England and France, and just a bit in the US.
   
   
7. The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy by Nora Roberts: This magical, mystical trilogy is set in Ireland and it’s such a wonderful read. I loved the setting as well as the characters and the relationships – ooh, and the romance too!
   
   
8. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows: Another one set in England, the story of the Nine Days’ Queen reimagined and retold with a fantasy twist…it was hilarious.
   
   
9. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys: Probably my first serious historical fiction read set during World War II that spans Lithuvania, Serbia, even the North Pole – it’s a truly heart-breaking read but an important one.
   
   
10. Kiss Me While I Sleep by Linda Howard: Most of LH’s books (and I do love all of her books) are set in the US but this one is set in Paris and all I’ll say is it’s amazing! There are spies, disguises, rogue agents, romance, suspense and action and more!
